Three new Penal codes seek to modernise India's current legal framework for criminal law. They aim to overhaul and reform the criminal justice system in India -
- The Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (BSA) will replace the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
- The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS) will replace the Indian Penal Code, 1860 (IPC) .
- The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS) will replace the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (CrPC).

He served as a Convener of 'Committee for Reforms in Criminal Law' and recommended the reforms for the new Penal codes to the Parliamentary Committee. He is currently the Vice Chancellor at National Law University, Delhi.

Advocate, Supreme Court of India
Sanjay Vashishtha, an Advocate at the Supreme Court of India and the revising author of Ahmad Siddique’s ‘Criminology, Penology and Victimology’. He served as a Consultant to the 'Committee for Reforms in Criminal Law' and recommended the reforms for the new Penal codes to the Parliamentary Committee.
