<p><span class="padded-dropcap">T</span>he following video explains the doctrine of *caveat emptor* (buyer beware) under Section 16 of the Sale of Goods Act, which places the responsibility on buyers to exercise due diligence when purchasing goods. Exceptions to the doctrine include fraud or misrepresentation by the seller, implied conditions of fitness or merchantability, reliance on the seller's skill for a specified purpose, and sales by sample or description. The case of *Eternit Everest Ltd. v. Abraham* highlights the applicability of these exceptions. While modern trade and consumer protection laws have mitigated the doctrine's impact, *caveat emptor* remains relevant, encouraging buyers to carefully examine goods before purchase.</p>
